Commissioner Maubritane answers a plea for help, and finds himself plunged into a nightmare. Pierre Sertat tells Maubritane of a mysterious intruder who keeps breaking into his house - but despite Maubritane's precautions, Sertat is shot and wounded and the visitor escapes.
